The Feldenkrais method is a mind-body learning approach pioneered by Moshé Feldenkrais, that puts attention on moving more easily, comfortably and effectively. It is a process-based practice that focuses on the experience learned from within, respecting each person’s own history and individuality.
Teaching is done via two main modes — in Awareness Through Movement® lessons, the practitioner uses his or her voice to guide students through a carefully planned series of gentle, easy movements inspired by early childhood development and functional movement. Lessons are usually done lying on the floor or sitting in a chair, and can be be done in a group or individually, either live or recorded.
In Functional Integration® lessons, the practitioner meets the student one-on-one and uses gentle, guiding touch to move the student’s body. Movements are not scripted, but are a shared exploration based in curiosity and creativity, with the goal of discovering new options for easier and more comfortable movement.
The Feldenkrais method has found many applications in healing practices such as physical therapy and pain reduction, and is also widely enjoyed by performers, artists, and athletes, for its focus on efficiency of movement and spontaneity.
